Born in Ischia in 1955. When she was three her family moved to Lombardy, where she attended the Liceo Classico and graduated in Literature, without ever setting aside her keen interest in art and painting. Since 1995 she has lived and worked in Milan. In the 1970s she attended the Scuola del Nudo at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, a pupil of the distinguished artist Prof. Sponziello. This period of training was formative: beyond helping her resolve the problems of the figure, it let her glimpse, under the Maestro’s guidance, her own artistic path.
In the 1990s her friendship with the artists Fiorella Iori and Marisa Settembrini drew her into the Milanese studio world. In recent years her work has centred on a strong, figural expression capable of great emotional impact, at times even surreal, as was clear in the 2003 exhibition in the historic centre of Monza, together with her friend the artist Heather Jackson. In 2004 she was a guest with a solo show at the Iori and Settembrini studio in Milan. These years also brought her meeting with the eminent art critic Professor Carlo Franza, who in 2005 invited her to take part in the exhibition “La realtà e l’immaginario” in Florence, under the patronage of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage. In the spring of 2006 she was nominated by the jury president, Prof. Carlo Franza, for the Premio delle Arti / Premio della Cultura, and that autumn she showed in Rome, at the Teatro “Centrale”, with the exhibition “Stanze Monografiche”.

Con l’immagine e oltre, campionata da figure femminili e la ripresa di una natura asserragliata in forme fluide, Laura Monzeglio costruisce il suo lavoro pittorico che da qualche tempo ha acquisito uno spessore sicuro.
Immagini e colori si raccontano con capitoli fertili, che segnano l’arte del nostro tempo evidenziandone fuochi e scintille.

L’immagine femminile vive in un corpo sirena il cui viso si oggettiva diafano e sognante, proprio in contrapposizione alla chioma fluente che l’avvolge come un fiume di lava in piena. Qui le incidenze e i rimandi speculano sui nomi di De Stefano e Venditti, artisti napoletani dell’Accademia di Napoli che hanno evidenziato l’anima partenopea.
È la vita che segna nei toni infuocati la vitalità del mondo, la creatività della dorsale femminile, la sognante realtà di un corpo che è l’origine del mondo. I toni provengono da certa scuola tedesca e italiana insieme, tedesca nella sua matrice espressionista, italiana nello spaccato meridionale del colore solare.
La natura è vegetante, nelle forme e nei segni che si increspano come un panneggio fortemente decorativo.
I temi evolvono in un volo immaginifico che non è surreale ma ritmo lirico; ed è così che questa favola raccontata a colori da Laura Monzeglio si percepisce fresca e nuova, sintonizzata con il nostro tempo di cui ne coglie il respiro più elegante.

With the image and beyond, sampled from female figures and the return of a nature barricaded in fluid forms, Laura Monzeglio builds a body of painting that has, for some time now, taken on a sure depth.
Images and colours tell themselves in fertile chapters that mark the art of our time, drawing out its fires and its sparks.
The female image lives in a siren’s body whose face turns diaphanous and dreaming, set against the flowing hair that wraps it like a river of lava in full spate. Here the echoes and correspondences reflect on the names of De Stefano and Venditti, Neapolitan artists of the Academy of Naples who brought the Parthenopean soul to light.
It is life that marks, in fiery tones, the vitality of the world, the creativity of the female form, the dreaming reality of a body that is the origin of the world. The tones come from a certain German and Italian school at once: German in its expressionist matrix, Italian in the southern cross-section of solar colour.
Nature is vegetal, in the forms and signs that ripple like a strongly decorative drapery.
The themes evolve into an imaginative flight that is not surreal but lyrical in rhythm; and so this fable told in colour by Laura Monzeglio feels fresh and new, attuned to our time, whose most elegant breath it captures.
